IPSC Training Programs

Irvine Premier Soccer Club (IPSC) provides a comprehensive training program that incorporates a multifaceted approach to soccer development at the individual and team level. The components of this program, outlined below, are intended to provide a structured practice environment supported by individual instruction and semi-structured player-centered practice.

Team Training
IPSC teams train twice per week with their coaches and trainers. The practice schedule is either Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays. Some teams work with one coach for all practices and games and some choose to bring in an additional trainer to run one or two of the practices. Practices are structured around a common framework which begins with a soccer specific warm-up. We emphasize dynamic stretching combined with simple technical activities to begin each practice. Following the warm-up we transition into some intense technical training covering the fundamentals of dribbling, turning, passing, receiving, heading and shooting. The next progression uses small sided games that are conditioned to teach one of our attacking or defending principles. Each session concludes with a small sided scrimmage to goal. The specific topics within this framework are chosen by the coaches in consultation with the trainer as a part of the continuous cycle of development focusing on the team’s strengths and weaknesses identified in games.

Friday Night Futbol
Age Group: U4-U12 -30 minutes of ball mastery skills training followed by one hour of supervised “street soccer”. The concept of street soccer has been well documented to improve a players’ creativity. Players learn to solve problems on the field and become more instinctive, dynamic and fluid players. It is also great fun. This program is perfect for club players and AYSO players.

Goalkeeper Training
In soccer, the goalkeeper is a specialized position. Our goalkeeper trainers are available to all of our goalkeepers on a weekly basis. The goalkeeper sessions are scheduled to fit in with the existing practice schedules of our teams. Our goalkeeper trainers are also available to our teams to attend occasional games and team practices.

Small Group Private Training
Our trainers are available to conduct small group private sessions focusing on specific technical areas. The small group environment makes these sessions more affordable and allows certain skills such as 1v1 attacking to develop in competitive activities. Our trainers give the players specific activities to complete in their own personal training time between sessions. Visit our trainers’ page for more information on their availability.

Individual Private Training
Our trainers are also available for individual private training. This format allows one on one coaching of very specific areas of technique. Our trainers give the players specific activities to complete in their own personal training time between sessions. Visit our trainers’ page for more information on their availability.

IPSC Training Logs
Parents are encouraged to become an integral part of our training program. Players are given “IPSC Training Log Books” which are used to record the personal training time they commit to their own development outside of team training and trainer supervised activities. Teams can give awards to players who complete specific targets in their log books.

Summer Team Camps
For one week during the summer our trainers and coaches will conduct a week long camp. This camp will provide a week of intensive practices and small sided competition. Our players will get a chance to work with all of our staff and pick up advice and coaching from them all. Visit our camps page for more information.
